Major Takeaways
Speed vs Information
Working at Google reinforced my own process for making design decisions. The goal is to make the best decision possible but by taking a little bit more time to gather data, we can make a more informed decision that can save time, money, and energy down the line.
Decision Permanence
Data informed decisions yield more valuable results. However, data is not always readily available. In which case, consider, is this decision easily changed? Are there major implementation requirements? Is user / product impact high or low? What similar examples can we glean insights from? Ultimately, try to understand how permanent is a decision.
Cross-Functional Communications
Communication is paramount to success in design role. I use two strategies for clear team communication. First, one team channel to ensure everyone access to discussions and those in other time zones could review conversations. Second, regular team lunches for free flow discussions and understanding how different people communicate.
Friendship
Liking the people you work with is important for a well functioning team. It helps people better understand each other when discussing projects. Moreover, it will help people be more inclined to help each other and build stronger collaboration. And most of all, people will always be happier in life if they like their work team.

My work at Google was some of my favorite I've done. However, it contains proprietary Google / Android information that is restricted under an NDA.
But you're in luck! I have a presentation that I would be happy to show you in a private conversation.
